webcam works in cheese but not in skype

Hello, I have webcam that works fine with cheese but produces a black screen with skype/gmail video.

If I use export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so before calling skype or firefox in the terminal then it works fine. Problem is that I find this way too cumbersome for my mum to use. Any way that skype/firefox can be launched with these settings from the activities pannel in gnome 3?
