[Solved] From GNOME3 to KDE

Hello,

I'm running FC15 on a laptop with core i5 and a radeon HD5760. I love GNOME3 but I'm getting more and more annoyed by my fan running all the time and the bad graphical perfs (especially on minecraft which is heavily laging) due to the ATI open source drivers.
Since there's no solution about the driver problem yet, I'd like to install KDE until a solution is found. This means that I'd like to keep my GNOME3 installed if possible, and I don't want to mess with my laptop because I need it to work.

Could you please help me to proceed with the installation of KDE ?

Re: From GNOME3 to KDE

Just install the group KDE, log out, log in and select KDE. Quite trivial really.

While you are at it, also install LXDE and XFCE and give them a try too.

I've installed KDE and rebooted, then I've installed the ATI drivers as explained here http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503

Now when I start my PC it's stuck with this message : Started SYSV : Grant or revoke access to X for the ATI External Events Daemon

Edit :

Problem solved. I didn't installed the 64 bits librairies so it couldn't work...
Quote:
yum install xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs*.i686
Everything's fine now

I'm a little confused here; perhaps you ca help. I'm running F15 x86_64. Which combination of i686 and x86_64 packages did you find worked? If I follow Leigh's instructions, it wants to install *both* versions of xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs. Is that right? On my system that results in the following list:

akmod-catalyst x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs i686
akmods noarch
elfutils x86_64
elfutils-libs x86_64
emacs-filesystem x86_64
fakeroot x86_64
fakeroot-libs x86_64
gdb x86_64
glibc i686
kmodtool noarch
libX11 i686
libXau i686
libXext i686
libXinerama i686
libgcc i686
libxcb i686
livna-config-display noarch
nss-softokn-freebl i686
patch x86_64
pyxf86config x86_64
rpm-build x86_64
rpmdevtools noarch
xemacs-filesystem noarch
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs x86_64
