External monitor issues

I'm running F15 on my laptop and am having issues with external displays. I can extend or mirror onto the external display fine, but if I want just the external display on and the laptop display off, the external display is completely black. Also, if I try to connect two external monitors to the laptop with the laptop display off, one of them works and the other flashes strange colors. When I tried my monitors with a Ubuntu live cd, I was able to run the dual external displays without any problems.

Re: External monitor issues

Sounds strange I have an external monitor connected to my Laptop via HDMI and all I had to do after first boot was go into control panel and turn off my Laptop display.

The only things I can think off is that either your Monitor isn't compatible with Fedora for some reason (I would think this is unlikely) or that you need the ATI/NVidia Closed source Drivers installed for some reason with your graphics card.

Also how are you connection to your Monitor?

Re: External monitor issues

OK, I have found a workaround to my issue. It works fine if I'm using xrandr from the terminal, so I wrote a script to use the two external monitors by using a keyboard shortcut.

I have an Intel graphics card, one connected through VGA and one through a Displayport to HDMI adapter. It would be nice to have the GUI display settings working though.

Re: External monitor issues

Hi,

I seem to be having similar problems in F15 with an external monitor. I can get it working, but it's very temperamental. Basically, I just want to work off the external monitor and turn off the laptop monitor. That's how I left the settings when I shut down yesterday. But today more problems.

Yesterday, I had to configure the Display settings (System Settings > Display) on numerous occasions, with the computer freezing or both monitors going black before things finally seemed to work.

When I started up today, both my laptop monitor and the external monitor were black. On a second attempt, they were full of coloured fuzz.

Can anyone help me with this? I am no linux expert.

I have a Thinkpad E420
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 0126 (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 6741 (no driver is installed for this)
