F17 Naming - Jared Smith
It is once again time to choose the release name for the next Fedora release. Potential names will be accepted for consideration beginning September 13th (in other words, NOW) through September 20th.
Please submit your best ideas to the Fedora wiki at the address below:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Name_..._for_Fedora_17
Please note that you *must* follow the instructions and guidelines at the page listed above if you want your name to be considered. For instance, there must be an "is-a" link between the name Verne (from Fedora 16) and the name you suggest. That link must be different than previous links for Fedora release names. Also, we ask that you please conduct the required searches for brand and trademark names that might cause us problems.
Read the full guidelines at the wiki page listed above, where you can also find full schedule details for the release naming process.
For those of you interested in reviewing the history of Fedora release names, there is an appropriately named wiki page for doing so at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Histor..._release_names Please try to pick a name that is fun and creative. Don't delay... do it today! We all want an awesome name for Fedora 17!

Re: F17 Naming - Jared Smith
It's a shame that you must be a Fedora Contributor to have an account on the Fedora Account System so you are able to make a F17 naming suggestion.
Otherwise I would have suggested "Urso" since Jules Verne is born in Nantes, and Camilla Urso (a female violinist which was uncommon in these days, living 1842–1902) is born in Nantes, too.

Thanks for the tip, from reading https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infra.../AccountSystem I got the impression that FAS is for Fedora Contributors only.

F17 Naming
If i could only get past that pesky screen captcha registration then Tommy would be my choice.
There is a research article on making life from tungsten in the news.
So....
Verne is a robot and so is Tommy.
This is maybe a better link for Tommy.
I don't suppose that would get quashed for copyright ?

Re: F17 Naming - Jared Smith
Actually, Beefy Miracle was submitted.. (Along with Bacon, ****ton Falls, and Rocky Ripple)
But.. To be totally honest, If they do ever select Beefy Miracle, I would have to switch distros or skip a release.

Re: F17 Naming - Jared Smith
Okay, for those who can, here's an email from Jared Smith
Quote:
The election for the Fedora 17 release name is about to begin.
The Fedora community has submitted quite a few suggestions for the Fedora 17 release name, and that list has been narrowed down to the final eight potential names. In a couple of hours, the election will begin and you'll be able to vote on these names and assist in the final selection for the successor to Fedora 16 ("Verne").
This vote begins 4 October 2011 and runs until 10 October 2011 at 23:59:59 UTC. Other important facts:
* We are using the Range Voting method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_voting).
* Ballots may be cast on the Fedora Elections System at https://admin.fedoraproject.org/voting. *
If this is the first time you've used the voting system, you might want to read the Fedora Elections Guide, currently located at http://pfrields.fedorapeople.org/doc...ections-guide/
* In order to vote, you must have a valid Fedora Project Contributor Agreement (FPCA) on file and be a member of at least one non-CLA group. Please don't hesitate to log in at https://admin.fedoraproject.org/voting/about/relnamef17 and vote for your favorite names today.
Thank you to everyone who helped by contributing names for consideration and reviewing the names for the final ballot.

Re: F17 Naming - Jared Smith
I think they really need to add a simple rule: "no people/towns/lakes/mountains names allowed"!
