Re: How to change Fedora unity back to gnome?

That all depends..

How did you get unity on your Fedora system? Just reverse the steps to remove it.

then install gnome if it's not already installed.

Now if you are referring to what came with F15 or F16, then that's not unity. That is gnome.

Wow, really? Yes, the current graphics mode comes with Fedora 15,
and it does look like unity, rather than gnome !!!

How can I make it look like the "ordinary" gnome??
This gnome seems to be too "wierd" !!!

Cheers
Pei

Re: How to change Fedora unity back to gnome?

There is a "fallback" mode for the gnome shell that looks more like the older gnome 2 did.

You can turn it on if you wish, and your system will start in fallback mode until you change it back.

To force the fallback-mode go to "System Settings" -> ''System Info'' -> ''Graphics'', turn on the "forced fallback mode" switch and relogin.

To get an application to show up in your applications list, you need to create corresponding desktop-file and put it to the ~/.local/share/applications folder. Then launcher will appear in Applications list.

The desktop file format is explained here:

http://standards.freedesktop.org/des...ec-latest.html

or you can find one on your system, copy it and change it how you need it.

Nah Unity looks worse than Gnome3

Modifications can be done, if you're a CSS and JS master.
If you're not, XFCE, LXDE or KDE might be you're future prefered DE.

You can use the Main Menu editor to add shortcuts. Make sure it is installed,

Code:
$ sudo yum install alacarte
Then look for 'Main Menu' in the application list. Or you could simply type 'alacarte' from a run dialogue (alt + F2) or command-line.

Happily, some kind folks have donated their work to the fedora community to make G3 useable
