Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 2 Available Now
[QUOTE] As per the Fedora 16 schedule [1], Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 (TC1)
is now available for testing. Please see the following pages for
download links (including delta ISOs) and testing instructions.
Serverbeach1 is still available as a mirror (but with approximately a 1
hour lag behind dl), so if you are getting a slow download, try
replacing "dl" with "serverbeach1" in the download URL.

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
Noob question here. Will a yum update suffice? Or should I download new images and reinstall?

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
as detox said.. no need for you to reinstall, unless you want to test out the install procedure.
You are probably more up to date with a yum update than the iso imagea are.

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
The Fedora-16-TC1-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso runs fine from a cd, but after installing to HD all
I get is a black screen. I was able to yum update from a vt, which included a dozen or so core
dumps, but "completed successfully."
Still a black screen after reboot.
I am booting F16 from legacy grub with:
title fedora 16
root (hd1,6)
chainloader +1
if that matters. It does boot.
The only obvious log entries are in Messages:
Oct 15 17:26:24 akasha kernel: [ 94.370877] imsettings-daem[1358]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f0fc5be9ac6 sp 00007fff87673df0 error 4 in ld-2.14.90.so[7f0fc5bde000+22000]

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
It is just a Test Compose - probably the wisest course is to wait for a new release.
The only way I've found around that black screen is to re-target systemd to the
multi-user.target so that it boots to a command line like a minimal install. But I'm not
sure such a system is worth hacking on, firstboot doesn't run and there may be
other problems lurking.

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
TC1 is hard to get working.
I upgraded all packages from 'yum updates-testing', but use older glibc and glibc-common,
from either 'fedora' or 'updates' repository.
yum --disablerepo=updates-testing --enablerepo=updates distro-sync glibc glibc-common
I installed all imsettings- yum rpms. After that I downgraded glibc and glibc-common again.
I got from command line into graphical by configuring kdm. I added my personal account by hand.
Graphical KDE and LXDE failed, but Icewm enabled me to log in.
xterm works under Icewm. I use now a remote Firefox from Fedora 15.

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
There are new TC1 x86_64 isos available:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/piper...er/158374.html
I used the netinst.iso which installed flawlessly in about 20 minutes - Hello Fedora 16!

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
the live x86_64 issue is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=746844 . It's turning out to be a very bizarre bug; a specific library package (gdk-pixbuf2) somehow gets corrupted as part of the install. This doesn't happen in any of the other desktop lives, or in the 2011-10-18 nightly x86_64 desktop live, but does happen in the 2011-10-16 nightly x86_64 desktop live.
Anyhow, the fix is to use any other image (another desktop, the i686 image, the DVD...), or to do 'yum reinstall gdk-pixbuf2'.

Re: Fedora 16 Final Test Compose 1 Available Now
Okay, so we have figured out the live install issue.
It actually affects all live installs; the impact is only really obvious on the x86_64 desktop image, though.
What happens is that anaconda truncates up to 1MB at the end of its copy of the system image to the hard disk; the files in that last 1MB will be written full of zeroes. The bug has actually likely been around and not really noticed for a few weeks: it's quite possible for it to only affect files that aren't critical to system operation, and if the offending package then gets updated, you'd never necessarily notice the problem.
So we'll have a fixed anaconda in TC2; for all TC1 live installs we recommend always using this updates.img:
http://bcl.fedorapeople.org/updates/746844.img
you can use an updates.img for a live install by passing 'updates=http://bcl.fedorapeople.org/updates/746844.img' as a kernel parameter or by running 'liveinst --updates=http://bcl.fedorapeople.org/updates/746844.img' to start the live installer after boot. Even if you're not affected by the really obvious case of this bug, anaconda _will_ be corrupting some other system file on install, it's just not as immediately noticeable - so use the updates image!

I also downloaded netinst.iso and transferred it a USB stick.

It installed flawlessly on to a desktop computer.
