disabling autostart on kde desktop
Whenever I log in ( I'm using the KDE desktop) autostart runs and I end up with about 7 pages opening on my desktop. Although this is a minor problem compared to some others, it is quite annoying. How can I turn off auto start or where can I comment it out. Of course I don't know if I even should do this at all. Thanks for all the help you all have given in these forums. I rarely have to ask a question because it's already answered. THANKS!!

Try going to the .kde directory in your home dir and (re-)moving everything you don't like in the Autostart directory. You could move it to /tmp just to see if it works, and then remove the files if everything still works.

Thanks..but that didn't seem to do it. I am sure I did something to cause this and it's not that big a deal...yet. I'll keep trying though...I would rather be here than on my winblows machine. Thanks!

You probably have a saved session that re-initializes those programs because they were running when you terminated and/or saved the session.
Open the Control Center, select "KDE Components/Session Manager" and select "Start with an empty session." Apply your changes, logout, log back in and those windows shouldn't start up.

The joys of taking typing in High School - on a manual typewriter, of course. Yeah, I know - "what's a manual typewriter?"

okay i want to remove some programs from my autostart list as well, such as xmms and skype. but i'm using Gnome and tried to turn them off by Desktop Menu-->Preferences-->More Preferences-->Sessions and went to the third tab, 'Startup Programs' which is empty by the way.
So im stuck now, how do i turn them off?
