F16, Problems with kernel 3.2.1-3.fc16.i686.PAE
Hello,
today with command "sudo yum update" I installed newest updates for my notebook Lenovo L520 (Intel graphic chip, no nvidia or amd).
After reboot and choosing grub2 entry for new kernel kernel-PAE-3.2.1-3.fc16.i686 I can't to login.
I can see only black screen , no plymouth splash animation nor any messages. No reaction on "Alt+F2" or another key combinations, no beeps or something like this.
Luckily "old" entry for kernel 3.1.9-1.fc16.i686.PAE is still working, so I'm able to login to my laptop and to write this "help call".
Have someone else problems with this kernel update and, what is for me more important , how I can to solve this issue?
Maybe this information will be helpful:
List of updated/installed packages (taked from yum.log):

I would lsmod and check the difference in video cards that are loaded. I bet its not the same.

Same problem here, but, x86_64 version.
How can I see the new kernel modules to compare with my lsmod?

Oh crap I just read that you cant do alt +f2. have you tried "Ctrl + Alt+ F2" ? :_)
I just did my update on a samsung laptop and it went smoothly for x86_64.

Re: F16, Problems with kernel 3.2.1-3.fc16.i686.PAE
When I ran updates earlier today using yumextender I noticed that 3.2.1-3.fc16.i686.PAE was installed.
Since then I have a problem wth the system freezing when it comes out of a suspend - no mouse, no Alt+F2 or Ctl+Alt+F2.
I have had to remove power cord and battery to shut down.
All is fine afer a power up but next time I suspend and try to come out the notebook freezes again.
I'm running a Toshiba NB200

F 15 works with 2.6.41.10-3.fc15.i686.PAE Kernel after today's update. I don't know how that relates to the 3.X.X numbers.

This could be really issue with video driver: after wild keypressing within "black screen" i heard suddenly music theme from Gcompris educational package. I can't say which key combination it was, but I'm think, that this is not important.
Next question: how i can start lsmod when graphical desktop is not too see? How I (or better to say: "we" ==> more ppl have similar problems with last kernel update) can start/change to console at boot time?
Fedora 16 started with kernel 3.1.9-1.fc16.i686.PAE is listing thru lsmod command following modules:

here is a lsmod listing running the 3.2.1-3 kernel with intel video. I haven't had any issues with it here. I have it installed on several machines here running either intel or nvidia graphics and no problems on any of them.

I wonder if it could be an issue with power management? Possibly it's putting your display to sleep or not waking it up? Laptops (especially Lenovo laptops) are quirky anyway with the power management stuff and maybe there was some change to it that completely broke things for you.

Problems with the new Kernel? 3.2.1-3.fc16.i686
Anybody else run yum update today and install the new kernel? It boots and within a fixed time of less than a couple of minutes, I get a scary black screen. I didn't note down the error but is this an isolated problem? Anyone else facing this?
I have these three installed.
kernel-3.1.8-2.fc16.i686
kernel-3.1.9-1.fc16.i686
kernel-3.2.1-3.fc16.i686
kernel-3.2.1-3.fc16.i686 is the one that is crashing. I'm able to run kernel-3.1.9-1.fc16.i686 comfortably.

Hmmm ... last week i made some modification to grub configuration belonging to power management:
i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 pcie_aspm=force
(not right thema, but it indeed lowered idle power consumption with active wlan/bluetooth devices from about 22W to 16W without any side effects, values are proven by powertop utility)
But without this three boot parameters I have still no luck: black screen stay black
So my hope is died
Plz, help me / us

Have you redone The Nvidia stickie? It sounds like the kmod situation I have had several times over the last several years. I have a couple of times had to remove and reinstall kmod and akmod to get it to work.

Re: F16, Problems with kernel 3.2.1-3.fc16.i686.PAE
My laptop have no nvidia or ati graphic chip / chipset ... it's normal Intel HD 3000 built-in graphic chip, so no kmod/akmod "trick" is suitable for me.
Thank you anyway
