F16 install fails on AUS X54 notebook

I am attempting to install F16 on a new ASUS X54C laptop. I am using the same DVD that I use to install on a desktop with no issues. The installer was used to resize the existing partitions and create linux partitions.
The installer either freezes or kernel panics part way into the install.
I think this box uses a new chip which the distribution may be incompatable with.
It is listed as I3 Pentium 64 bit, chipset HM65.
If this is the case will it be supported in a future release?

Re: F16 install fails on AUS X54 notebook

Someone else in the forum says they installed just fine to that same laptop (see post #4 by colors):

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=274209

other than a suspend problem. Since that post was back December 2011 that suspend problem might be fixed.

Re: F16 install fails on AUS X54 notebook

Well I am happy for him.
I have tried deleting the /boot partition (forcing it into /) since it has been reported maybe too small.
No help.
This is a kernel panic in the aniconda installer with freshly formatted disks.
I can only assume hardware failure (new box) or some problem with this new Intel chip.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Jim

You may want to follow these instructions and create first a bootable USB stick, then install from it. I know, you need a working fedora 16 box...

After that, boot from the stick and try to install on your Asus X54. The install script is on the Desktop folder. This is a workaround solution.

Thanks for the reply.
I am using a bootable DVD now. I dont understand why a bootable USB stick works better?
Maybe the driver?
I have used the same DVD to install F16 to a desktop with no issues.
I am totally confused. Jim Bean
