XAMPP contains its own http server. You can't use it simultaneously with the standard Fedora httpd unless you configure either one to use non-standard ports.

[root@f16 ~]# less /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf | grep Listen

# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080
[root@f16 ~]# less /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf | grep Listen

Re: can't start httpd on my fedora 16

I have the same problem with Fedora 18. Then I found out from /var/log/httpd/error.log:

Code:
[Fri May 17 11:41:47.577429 2013] [unique_id:alert] [pid 2774] (EAI 2)Name or service not known: AH01564: unable to find IPv4 address of "myhostname"
AH00016: Configuration Failed
The problem was that I changed my hostname and httpd failed to resovle the IP for my hostname. A simple solution is to add 'myhostname' to /etc/hosts file as localhost.

Hope this helps someone
