Re: libsocialweb-core, telepathy

Nope. I don't think that is going to work. It is dependency that is needed by gnome-shell.

Code:
yum deplist gnome-shell
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
package: gnome-shell.x86_64 3.2.2.1-1.fc16
 [ ... ]
  dependency: libedataserverui-3.0.so.1()(64bit)
   provider: evolution-data-server.x86_64 3.2.3-2.fc16
  dependency: libffi.so.5()(64bit)
   provider: libffi.x86_64 3.0.10-1.fc16
  dependency: libfolks.so.25()(64bit)
   provider: folks.x86_64 1:0.6.6-1.fc16
  dependency: libfontconfig.so.1()(64bit)
   provider: fontconfig.x86_64 2.8.0-4.fc16
 [ ... ]
and

PHP Code:

yum deplist folks
* | grep libsocial*

dependencylibsocialweb-client.so.2()(64bit)

providerlibsocialweb.x86_64 0.25.20-1.fc16
Hope this helps.

Re: libsocialweb-core, telepathy

ok so can you tell me one good reason they embedded libsocialweb-core in the shell and since when? There are people complaining about it linking to twitter with no control. Any possible workaround? Can i get rid of it if i install KDE or other desktop GUI?

I am pretty sure you can use another Desktop environment - KDE, XFCE, LXDE, etc. Why they embed this in the shell - sorry I have absolutely no idea.

Re: libsocialweb-core, telepathy

I haven't been able to get rid of it completely here, either, and one of the main reasons I have been checking out other desktops. I don't want to have that crap on my desktop. I don't use it, I don't want it on my system.

That would remove the entire Gnome 3 shell if they were to implement that command.

Re: libsocialweb-core, telepathy

What can you expect when the Gnome developers decided to write a desktop environment using javascript?

Yeak ok but there are unanswered questions like why and when. Linux is open source and free and the purpose of it is to give you the most choices not to tie you to anything like the social networks. LOL most of us here didn't even know they are (or shoud i say where, cause i think there's gone a be lots of tweaking ant thinking after this thread... And if i was connected to, Facebook or twitter, God forbid, i think i had the right to at least know... Gnome-3 is the same in all distros, do i smell something here? I don't know but i bet that KDE is the same since KDE is from what i know a wrapper around gnome...

take your questions over to the Gnome Bloat Mailing lists an ask them cause we cant answer " why " they did it. when they did it. possibly in F15

Re: libsocialweb-core, telepathy

One work around is to uninstall libsocialweb and then you will fall back onto something with menus that works i think it's from Gnome-2 except you don't have a real desktop where you can put shortcuts. But most of gnome-3 will still work.

By the way, there's another way, if anybody knew the exact ports those applications for twitter and facebook use, you can block those in the firewall, it's a bit more risky though if they can make their way through something like 80 or some other port you have to have open.

and "maybe" in a couple of years they might get around to answering your question with a sarcastic remark.

Seriously. I have filed bugs with Gnome that have been out there over a year now with not even one response to them. I have pretty much decided it does no good and quit filing bugs against Gnome unless it's something really serious.

I thought they were typically closed as "WONT FIX"
