Question Very slow startup of Thunar in F16 in Gnome Shell

Just what the title says. The first time in any session that I open Thunar, it can take up to 45 seconds for the window to appear. Starting it from a terminal presents no error messages, so I'm at a loss to know where to look for a problem indicator, or a solution.

Hmmm. This crops up in a Google-search ... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1816298

Which led me to this ... https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7373

...

Have a look at http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=5959
Since GNOME has automount then Thunar mounts the network shares and takes so long.
I don't have samba and the like but I remember someone used gigolo in replacement for what was causing trouble and it worked. Don't know if it applies for you.

The one that worked for me was going to /usr/share/gvfs/mounts and editing the network.mount file so that the automount line reads:

AutoMount=false

After doing that, Thunar opens very quickly and I don't get the second instance which had happened previously.

There's a warning in another thread on the subject that doing that may bolix other network functions. Have you noticed any negative consequences?

I don't really try to access any of the other computers on my home network via SAMBA or other type things. I do use SSH for access, either locally at home or remotely if it isn't blocked. I have not noticed any negative consequences.

I'll have to look for that warning. The only thing I recall reading was that it just meant that when one first tried t access the network, it would have the delay then. However, if one did not access the network, then there seems to be no downside to doing this.

BTW, I also use my network for printing, and do not seem to have noticed any impact there either.

The nice thing is that it is something that is easily reversed if it doesn't work for you. However, I expect that it won't cause any problems.
