Build from Source | fltk

Hi there,

While I occasionally install softweare from source, this time
Code:
./configure
ends with :

Code:
checking for fltk-config... no
fltk-config not found
and exits.
So I'm guessing that I need to install fltk? I tried to install it from the package manager and w/ yum, neither worked, it says we don't have that package in our repos.

What now? Do you guys know where to get it?

Ok, that worked pretty good, thanks.

just asking : In the make process it says that an other thing is missing, can I find it by searching for the package providing it by typing :
Code:
yum provides */"what_I'm_searching_for" an then install the given package?

yes, that's what you do to find the package containing what you need.

Usually.

Sometimes I've seen the missing list include library names but without the full name of the library (missing "math library" and not saying "missing libm" - note this is just an example, another is "can't fint qt" - where what may be missing is libqt<something or other>.a, or the include files /usr/include/Qt). At these times you may have to think about what the library name is before doing the search.

Re: Build from Source | fltk

I have often got around this issue by downloading the src.rpm and running a "yum-builddep" against it. I sometimes do this even if I am going to build from a tarball just to save on some hassle.

Sometimes, but it's not typical in my experience. A bigger problem is finding the correct version of a library.
So the places to look for details are in the config script, and the package website.
