Fedora 16 no longer booting after CUPS is uninstalled

Please Help!

OK, so I was having problems with my printer, namely, it suddenly mysteriously stopped printing. After attempting to reinstall the driver and trying different drivers , and playing with the printer, which all had no discernable effect, I decided that perhaps a recent CUPS update was the possible culprit. So, rather stupidly I uninstalled CUPS using the Gnome package manager, thinking I would reinstall it to see whether that would fix things. However, the uninstall resulted in a complete freezing the gnome window manager and subsequent reboot(s) got stuck at the last stage, namely at which the screen prints the message

Loading Fedora (3.3,2-1.f16.i686)
Loading initial ramdisk....

Any ideas on how to proceed would be welcome.

Re: Fedora 16 no longer booting after CUPS is uninstalled

I always boot into text mode, which helps avoid problems like this. Doesn't graphical mode have an option to see what's happening when you boot? It used to be that you could hit escape, or possibly the ctl+alt+f1 eaglelinux mentions, while booting, which will, hopefully, enable you to see what's going on and why it's failing

If that doesn't work, you can edit grub on the fly but the above should work I think.

Fedora 16 has and another boot option ( Recovery Mode ), and there you can see where the problem coming from: services, procesees etc. " Recovery Mode " is like " boot diagnostic mode ".

Bye !
