Post Packages

Hello everyone,

I am new here and to Fedora. I just loaded fedora 17 and I really like it alot even over other distros that i've tried. I just wanted to know from those of you that are well aquainted with fedora, what are the best post installation packages that I can install. I know my way around the OS pretty well now but I want to make sure I have everything I need package wise. Thanks in advance.

Re: Packages

Have a look at the yellow high-lighted "Fedora Set-Up Guides" link at the top of this forum.

In particular, EasyLife and/or AutoPlus will make your life easier. Check out Infinality (particularly http://www.infinality.net/blog/infinality-repository/) if you want to make your screen fonts look much much nicer (way better than installing MS fonts!). Other than that, without knowing what sort of things you use your system for, it's difficult to suggest what else you might like to have over the basic default install.

Ok thanks for the info. I mainly use this system to surf the web and study computer repair and pentesting. I like linux much better than windows and I study alot on how to use it. I have had several distros on this compyter and i have settled on Fedora for now. I understand though that Redhat in general is making deals with microsoft and alot of people are moving away from Fedora as a result is that true? I don't care anyway I like this setup for now and I mainy surf on the tor network anyway. Thanks.

Re: Packages

You make accusations on Red Hat about having "deals" with microsoft and I am the one being touchy.... Interesting.

Re: Packages

http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/12368.html gives a pretty good explanation, including the reasoning. Note that it's not set in stone.

Re: Packages

I think the OP may be confusing Susa/Novel with Red Hat.

And you may be touchy over the use of a MS certificate to sign Fedora boot code for UEFI.

And yes, I think you were a bit touchy too.
