Sandisk cruzer 8 gb flash drive errors

I have been using this drive for data storage and copying no problem. Today I tried to use gparted to delete create parttion and and make bootable for live usb creation. This is what I get in gparted...se attached pics. Before this happened, about a week ago I attempted to install a google chrome os iso to usb using the sites recommended windows program for copying google os iso to usb. All I remmeber is it did not work and flash drive had benn chopped up into 8 or more...pieces as far as I'm concerned, and I believe there was a gpt patition created on the drive. Any solutions, googling gets no where.

The GUI partition tools can get confused by a junk partition table - gparted doesn't have proper error handling. Delete the partition table and start over:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=1024 count=1000

Following that, either use fdisk or gparted to make one partition and create a filesystem with mkfs.vfat or such.

Ran first command OK but creating partition still gets invalid argument. Tried fdisk probe and go the following:

WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument.
The kernel still uses the old table. The new table will be used at
the next reboot or after you run partprobe(8) or kpartx(8)
Syncing disks.
[root@Hewjr Henry]# partprobe
[root@Hewjr Henry]# partprobe /dev/sdd1
Error: Partition(s) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 on /dev/sdd1 have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably because it/they are in use. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes.

Rebooted and stiil have same problem.

So read the first bit of data off the disk and see whether it really is zero.

# dd if=/dev/sdd of=filename bs=1000 count=1
# hexedit filename

Was able to get flash drive fixed with gparted version 0.11.0 in mint 13 go figure, had all kind of trouble wth gparted version 0.12.0 in fedora 17. Thanks for al your help.

Yup, Gparted is not good. I prefer using fdisk, since it always works. I have to read the man page every time, but that is a small price to pay for reliability.
