F17 with Windows Boot Manager

I am trying to install F17 on a Asus G75 Laptop. I shrank the Window7 partition using the windows disk management utility. Then installed F17 using a installation DVD. To boot the DVD I set the BIOS Boot Option Priority to “P2: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT51M” and installed Fedora without any problem. I removed the install DVD to reboot the computer. When I tried to restart the computer I got the message

Code:
Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.
Then I went back to the BIOS to boot from the hard drive but the only boot option was the DVDRAM drive. I then inserted the first disk of the backup factory state windows DVD's and rebooted the computer, GRUB flash up for about 5 seconds and then the computer booted to fedora. I then rebooted again this time selecting Windows7 from grub. I got some warning message saying Windows was damaged and I need to re-install windows. So I re-installed window and checked the BIOS again and the second boot options was now “Windows Boot Manager” and I am unable to boot into Linux.

Is this the issue that Red Hat will pay Verisign to sign Fedora into Microsoft's UEFI Secure Boot starting with F18? If so, how can I install fedora for a duel boot system.

Right now the BIOS is as follows:

Code:
Boot Configuration
UEFI Boot [Enabled]
Launch PXE OpROM [Disabled]

Boot Option Priorities
Boot Option #1 Windows Boot Manager
Boot Option #2 P2: HL-DL-ST DVDRAM GT51M
I have to reinstall Fedora anyway since and was able to further shrink the windows partition and used gparted to make one large empty space. What steps should I follow to re-install fedora?

Re: F17 with Windows Boot Manager

You might want to look at this page:
http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/

Rod is a member of the forum and his site contains a great deal of info of UEFI. It's where I learned to deal with it.

Right now I use EasyBCD for dual booting with windows, but, I don't think it works with UEFI yet. If I had to dual boot windows with UEFI, I would probably try rEFInd first.

Re: F17 with Windows Boot Manager

I've been reinstalling windows and fedora this weekend trying different settings. I disabled UEFI boot and reinstalled fedora 17. Once again lost the "Windows Boot Manager" boot option. I was able to use gParted and boot to the local hard drive. I got the Windows Boot Manager option back by changing the "bios_grub" flag to "boot". Now the computer will boot to windows 7 all by itself but I still have to use the gParted live cd to get into fedora.

How can I change settings to make grub come up? Do I need to install grub2?
