newbe lib issues

ok guys..

first I want to thank you for you help. many of you have given me some good directions and I just wanted to say thanks..

that being said..THIS SUCKS!!

ok im done complaining now

I downloaded and installed some RPM's last night.. my goal was to get xmms and xine working on my laptop. a emachine 6809. this system has a amd 64 3000 and a 64 meg ati video card. I am running FC3 with the .667 kernel

I got xmms working but it was hit and miss for a while.. I have installed 4 rpm's for this. 1 was the xmms 64. 1 was the skins 64.. 1 was for wma support. and the last was for mp3 support.. I have to say that while this isnt all that hard once you sort of understand what your doing.. still a real pain for a windows user.

anyway I think there is a bug.. let me explain. I can play mp3 from the ntfs partition just fine.. but when I try to play wma's it crashes xmms.. not the end of the world really as I have been meaning to convert all my wma's to mp3's anyway.. but still it shold work. i dont know who to tell..

I do have one other question tho.. how do you enable cd support. I want to play audio cd'd in xmms. I couldnt figure it out although it was about 2 or 3 in the morning.

ok now on to xine. this is where I have problems.

as I said I have a 64 bit system. so I downloaded the FC3_64 bit rpm's. I down loaded the lib and xine intself.. when I tryed to install the lib I got an error that said I needed 4 other lib's.. does that make any sences at all? I need 4 lib's.. count them! 1 ,2 ,3 ,4.. not 1 or 2 or 3.. 4.. oknow im done. a none admin type user is venting here..

ok so I go out to the web and I can only find one of them.. I have searched and searched and I cant find the other 3 becasue i need 64 bit versions.. so my question is.. where do I find them. please know I dont have an internet connecton to this laptop yet as I still have to configure the wrapper for the Bradcom wireless card.. that should take me another week(sarcasim). so I need to down load these to windows, write to a cd, then reboot. please keep in mind I cant just yum k

ok so here are the libs I need to find. but after searching for a while.. I get nothing .. I can find the i386 versions for FC3 but not the 64bit versions.. do the exist? the i386 versions dont work btw, or im sure you know.. but i tryed them anyway. mewbe optimist

libXvMCW.so.1()(64bit)
libaa.so.1()(64bit)
libdvdcss
libfame-09.so.1()(64bit)

any help, and comments are most welcome

thanks for you time

libdvdcss - http://rpmseek.com/rpm-dl/libdvdcss-...93:1:0:1798734
libfame - ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/dag/fedo....rf.x86_64.rpm
libaa - http://rpmseek.com/rpm-dl/aalib-1.4....93:1:0:1628154
libXvMCW - ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/dag/fedora/3....rf.x86_64.rpm
between ww.rpmseek.com and www.rpmfind.net , i found the files you're looking for. personally, i'd try getting your system online so that you can use yum or apt as they both have dependency traking and will make installing things much easier.

i don't have a fry's out here, so i don't know what i'm missing.
we do however get a comp show out here at least once a month with alot of vendors, so i don't think i'm missing all that much. (besides, i doubt fry's would be able to stock the vast selection of hardware that is generally available at these shows.)

frys here is about the size of a super walmart.. they have just about everyting you can think of.. altho im sure the comp shows your talking about has better deals.

ok.. back to the libs

2 worked 2 didnt..

the ones that didnt are the libaa.soblablabla
and the libXvMCW.soblablabla

the thing is when I went to the site in your link the .so. part fo the name is no longer in the filename.

xine lib says it wants both of these libs to have the .so. in the filename. I looked on rpmseek and rpmfind for libaa.so* and libXvMCW.so* and found nothing..

so heres a newbe question. should I try to copy the files I do have (the ones you pointed me to) to the names I need and see if that works? Im sure your goint to say NO!!! ARE YOU CRAZY??!!!
