Why /media?

I've recently started to use FC3 on one of my machines, the rest are still using RH9.
Nope, never found time for FC1 or FC2.
My questions:

Why the use of /media instead /mnt?
Is this something only in FC3, or are other distros using /media as well?

That's all, it's not a problem, I'm just curious.

I know that Ubuntu and FC3 have /media, because /media makes more sense. /media is used for removable drives, and /mnt for mounted network shares or other partitions on your hd.

Well, that is true, but I have (and many others) have used /mnt for many years for mounting CD-ROMs, floppies, Zip disks etc etc, without confusion
When I first booted up FC3 and started looking around,
"Hey, where are my CD-ROM drives?" ie. not listed in the /mnt dir.
"Hey, what's this? /media?" "ahhh, that's where my CD-ROMs are mounted"

So, /media has only come in use because it makes more sense, nothing else?

Hi!

I'm still using /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrecorder on my FC3 box.
So... don't be upset, tomorrow must be a better day
