USB, computer freezes

Hi forum
Now I have another problem with my lappy. When I plug in my USB jump drive, just plug in, the computer freezes, and the only way out of it is pressing the power button. Anyone has experienced it? I have APM on and ACPI off, and if I boot in with ACPI=on the USB works just fine, so it could be APM related. Anyone knows any solutions?
Thanks!

What distro you running?
What kernel are you running?

More than liklely you will need to upgrade your kernel, hotplug, and possibale udev and initscripts depending on what distro and kernel running. Hopefully I can answer with the two questions answered from above.

Hi Brian1
I am running kernel-2.6.10-1.766_FC3. The thing is that as I said it works when ACPI is on, but does not when it's off, that's why I think an upgrade won't help.

Any reason you don't want acpi to be on. Does it cause other problems? I would say the issue is in the precompiled kernel. You could compile a new one and see if that helps. Many issues in the precompiled kernels from synaptic, yum, or up2date.

Yeah
The problem I was having was that the ACPI wasn't managing well my CPU temperature (http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45149), and it overheated several times until shut down by BIOS, so I was suggested to change to APM, which works fine in that sense. But in some other cases it's not as good. So right now I think I'll skip a couple of kernel releases, and give a try later to a new kernel, to see if it works for me. But I think there must be some way to mount a USB device even with APM...
