Dual monitors different displays

Is it possible to have one Tv-out display showing for instance a movie from a DVD and at the same time from the same linux box do ordinary web surfing with display on a monitor ?

I guess it is, but I havent found anything written on this subject.

If anybody have it can you please describe what I need. Do I for instance need two graphics cards?
I havent purchased any graphics yet so suggestions are very welcome.

Yes, you can. There are some different directions you can take with this:
1) Completely different X sessions on each monitor (Gnome on one, KDE on the other)
2) Single-session spanning both monitors - you can simply place the applications where you wish

With the TV-out option, you'll probably (I don't know because I haven't looked into this) need an NVidia card, since I think this can be done with their "twinview" setup. Or you'll need at least two cards. So my basic answer is "yes, this can be done." How it's done will take someone else more knowledgeable or some research (most likely both).

@ crackers
You can do it also using an ATI or Matrox GH450/550 graphic card ;-)

@ norrtull
Depending on the card (TV outlet or adapter) there are several desciptions available throughout the net. Most descriptions are tailored to individual graphic boards. But in order to understand them you'll need to read the XFree86/Xorg configuration manual first.

One thing that I find interesting is that I am missing the important modeline entries in all RHL/FDC releases. Those are

# TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output.
# 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync
#ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630

# 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync
#ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616

And someone has to take care if he lives in the NTSC, SECAM or PAL world when using modelines on his TV set.
