Unhappy FC3 2.6.11-1.14 kernel disabled WiFi

Since I allowed the FC3 2.6.11-1.14 kernel update to install (via Up2date) the Wifi network refuses to startup from a cold boot. Instead I now have to drill my way past a couple of configure dialogs, supplying the root password, and then activate the WiFi NIC.

Not a great update if you rely on WiFi networking as I do with my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600.

Any ideas?

Examine /var/log/messages, see if it is in fact trying to bring up the interface and getting errors, or if it no longer bothers itself.

ifup wlan0

or whatever your interface is called, in a terminal, should do the same job as the GUI nonsense.

Had a long look at the contents of /var/log/messages. Quite a bit in there for Yenta, which is my wlan driver but no errors. However there are quite a few entries for
cardmgr[2852]: could not adjust resource: memory 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: Input/output error
... and quite a few for "unreachable network" which is understandable as the wlan interface is disabled.

If I find out why the wlan is disabled at startup with this version of the kernel I will make sure to post the details.

Hm, cardmgr is to do with pccard/pcmcia.

Evidently this is not fatal or you couldn't come up okay later.

I think I would be tempted to check that

ifup wlan0

will bring you up properly, and then stick it in /etc/rc.local and check it plays nice enough to forget about.
