Connected to the internet...But feel something not right

Hi guys finally connected to the internet; i setup through the wizard, the internet connection seems quite slow for some reason; it is slower than in windows....really slow...
What is wrong?...Also is there an icon or system docket that can tell me whether im connected and what my speed is....cause it allows to get an understanding of my connection...
Thanks...

I don't know if there is a program, but there are website which can measure it, in the netherlands (where I live) www.speedtest.nl is commonly used.

Hi!
First of all sorry for my english!!!
You can obtain some information using 'ping' in windows and linux and after compare both.
Your network config is the same of windows? (dhcp / static IP) Do you have a firewall installed in windows?

I think KPPP provides another window and monitors the speed, with graphs and all.
