FC4 cairo/pango update + firefox = no fonts in firefox?

I recently updated to the following rawhide/FC5 packages and voila .. no more text/fonts in firefox (must be cairo/pango - or something?). Anybody else experienced this?

I just did the same update last night and ended up with the same results!

Has anyone figured out how to fix this yet?

I think my FC5 devel system is toast.

I'm running the ubuntu 5.0.4 Live CD for the time being.

Seems to have fixed it fine.

I rebuilt firefox using the how-to in Thomas' fedoranews.org page @ http://fedoranews.org/tchung/firefox/. Firefox seems to behave the way it should be for now - or at least with fonts showing. Too early to tell really. Anybody else find anything?

works well, I did the same but considering that firefox was pooched already, I built the rpm package with 1.0.5 http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozill...6-aviary1.0.1/

seems ok so far

I caved. I got bored with only e-mail running. lol Looks like the current build may have helped but no garentee.
Installing FC4 (everything) was a piece of cake compared to the devel seesaw. But it fun while it lasted.
I may pick it up at FC5T2.

I see they fixed the WORKGROUP dhcp problem in FC4, after the fact, but seems to be working.
I have samba, cups, e-mail, and sendmail for root (it sent a message to the term in the middle of yum update and knocked off yum. Imagine that. But another yum update zipped through until it got back to where it was. )

Yumm update was very impressive, 135 updates, 3 mirros blew off and it continued on others.
Got a slow one ( I mean really slow) so I hit Ctrl-c, it went looking for another mirror.
Nothing stopped it from working, the KDE-i18N- language packs are a pain. There is no off swith for these in the add / remove program.

I've reset the test-mail-list to batch and it's time to start screwing up this install.

trancedude, try this... last time I was running rawhide, this did the trick for me... I'm back to *mainstream* FC4 for now...

If you are using rawhide, subscribe to the fedora-test-list and fedora-devel-list. The problem and solutions were discussed in these lists

This should have been fixed in the latest update

The development tree is called rawhide. Beginners shouldnt be using the development versions

The problem was that current stable version of firefox build for fedora has pango enabled. older versions of pango used XFT for fonts rendering while the newest pango use cairo for fonts rendering. You can disable pango in firefox by editting and uncommenting these lines in your /usr/bin/firefox file.

##
## Set MOZ_ENABLE_PANGO is no longer used because Pango is enabled by default
## you may use MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 to force disabling of pango
##
MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1
export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO

I hope this help.

this is great help, but actually I don't have cairo, nor pango - and it wouldn't install, no time to figure out why, but I don't have any problem with the fonts? what happens at your desktop firefox's fonts exactly?
