Amarok, Noatun only play some mp3's since upgrade from fc3 to fc4

Hi,

I know from the very first days of redhat 9 that mp3 support isn't included in distrubtions of redhat! So thats not the fact.
Till now I used all versions of Fedora from 1 to 4, I always installed the xmms-mp3 rpm und the new kdemultimedia from kde-redhat project and I could listen to my mp3 files.

But since Fedora 4 I encounter some strange problems. My favorite player amarok doesn't play all of my mp3-files, it only plays some and if I try to play some other mp3's it crashes. Noatun behaves the same, it crashes too.
The strange thing is it crashes on the same files!
So I tried these files in XMMS and XMMS plays all files.
I thought maybe I should try to play my files via gstreamer rather than with xine. So I installed gstreamer, but the problem remains.
Further I tried to upgrade to new KDE 3.4.1 with the files of kde-redhat project, including new kdemultimedia. But the problem still remains.

Now, I ran out of ideas how to get this working.

Does anybody encountered the same behaviour? Maybe there is someone out there who could give me some hints how to fix this?

Please, I dont like XMMS, but if I want to listen mp3's I've to use it! :-(

Thanks in advance,

kind regards,

Andreas

I didn't solved the problem right now. I still have to use XMMS. But I also tried to switch to arts engine or gstreamer instead of xine, but amarok behave like I told.

It is strange that no more people have the same problem.

Maybe we have something in common in our configuration. Did you made a fresh install of FC4 oder did you upgrade from FC3 to FC4, like I did?

kind regards

Andreas

Fresh install. Not even xmms works on mine. Are you reading your MP3 files from a seprate drive or partition, maybe even NTFS?

@skipper3k
I installed the gstreamer plugins but the same happens. Since it plays only some mp3 files the engines like gstreamer, xine and arts must be allright.

@omega_shadow
Yes, I'm reading my files from a separate drive with NTFS partition.
XMMS doesnt play any mp3's? You tried to install xmms-mp3 plugin from kde-readhat or somewhere?
I also tried to copy the file which amarok doesnt play to my ext3 partition but the same happend, it crashes before a single tone can be heard.

Omega_Shadow do you installed the mp3 support for from kde-redhat project?

Go here: http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/

download the .repo file place it in your repos dir in /etc/yum.repos.d

and then type:
yum install kde qt arts kdelibs kdebase gtk+ gtk2 redhat-artwork

You will get a fresh version of kde with mp3 support. But be warned maybe it will be like in my case you will be able to play some mp3's and not all. But installing the xmms-mp3 plugin for xmms will enable xmms to play all mp3's.

I installed all MP3 plugins by following the FedoraFAQ. Xmms only plays some of my MP3's, but it does play all of them.

I think it has to have something to do with us reading from the NTFS partition. Not sure what yet, as I did the same and moved a few to ext3 with no results.
