Unhappy Extremely Slow Boot!

I recently downloaded the Mepis live CD (which you can also install form) to try on my desktop; it detected all of my hardware and seemed pretty slick so I decided to installed it. Everything went find and I have been using it for about a week. Then yesterday I came home from work and turned on the computer and it took like 50 times longer to boot for some reason. So I tried it again and the same thing happened. Everything runs fine it is just really, really slow. It gets no errors on boot or anything. It also started to do this on my previously installed Yoper Linux, but I thought it was Yoper. I was thinking maybe this was something wrong with my 60GB Maxtor hard drive. All my hardware seems to be in working order. Any thoughts or suggestions??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a Fedora Core 4 forum...this may be a bug specific to Mepis linux, I would check with their support forum...are you running off the hard drive or live cd or is the cd still in the drive? Maybe its booting it instead of the HD install?

are there any error messages in /var/log? have you cleaned up your system after updating it? and: have you updated? if yes, the cause might be the switch from xfree to x11 in debian.

It is running off of the HD and the cd isnt in the drive. the live cd actually boots wat faster then off the hard drive. this is why i thought there may be a problem witht he actual HD

Any major updates would require the video drivers to be re-installed...if the cd boots faster than the HD it does kinda make you think the HD may be failing...but then again any major updates or config changes may also be at fault....
