Fedora Core 4 and Point2Play/Cedega

Well, it doesn't seem that you can use Fedora Core 4 with Point2Play and Cedega. There is a conflict with the kernel. I'm using kernel 2.6.11-1.1398 and it appears that there are basic conflicts between it at Cedega.

Sigh... No games for me. At least no Windows games.

Has anyone gotten this to work without compiling their own custom kernel?

Richard,

Hmm, I suppose it must be my installation, though I don't know why. Everything worked fine with Mandrake 10.1, but hasn't worked at all since installing FC4. Every game I install locks up the machine (and I mean Windows, blue screen type lock up, totally dead). I've tried 3 or 4 games and all die just as the install finishes and it tries to load any screen.

I've talked to Transgaming and they don't have an answer. My best guess was either a conflict with the kernel (clearly not it the case since you have it working though it's what the transgaming folks seem to think) or something with the ati-fglrx drivers, though they seem to work fine everywhere else (including Crossover Office).

It's a mystery.

It could be the ATI drivers, as I'm running an nVidia 6600 with 256Mb of memory.

Did you have the cd-rom locked when installing from the 1st CD? Mine cedega keept saying that the drive is busy and it can not eject the disk.

If naultilus opens when you insert a CD, you will have to close the window first. In short, the CD may be locked by Nautilus and not CeDega.

The install process works fine. I've tried using both Point2Play and also just doing an install with Cedega. In each case, the install process works fine. As an example:

I tried installing Guild Wars. Setup the install. Mounted the CD and ran setup.exe. I get the setup window from Guild Wars. Goes through the entire setup process including changing to CD2 (umount CD1, change, mount CD2) and logging onto the server and downloading all the updates. Then a system requester comes up. I don't know what it says since that's when the entire machine lockes up. I just get the window frame and title bar (with no title). Only thing I can do is hit the reset button. Not a good thing with Linux.

Pretty much the same story with every other game. Diablo II almost makes it to the end of the install. Says the thing is installed (since the icon shows up in Point2Play), but trying to run it crashes the machine. Same story with everthing I try.

It's pretty clear to me that this is yet another in a very long list of ATI issues. glxinfo give good info with direct rendering enabled. glxgears gives good frame rates (in the 2200 range; not too bad). Tests through Point2Play are all green, but the thing just doesn't work.

I have a new nVidia card on the way. I've messed with ATI about as long as I'm willing to.

Here all OK with cedega 4.4

A64 3000+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Radeon 9700

never had problem, i used kernel:

2.6.11-1.1369
2.6.12-1.1387
2.6.12.1.1398

did you tweaked your xorg.conf ? ( setting up your MB of video ram, disable vertex shaders and so on...)
