Unhappy Toshiba ACPI and FNFX not working with kernel 2.6.12-1.1447_FC4

I recently updated to kernel 2.6.12-1.1447_FC4, and now I cannot load the module toshiba_acpi:
Code:
# /sbin/modprobe toshiba_acpi
FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1447_FC4/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko): No such device
This of course, prevents the use of fnfx (Toshiba Function Keys)

This was working fine with kernel 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4.
Is there anything I can do to solve this, or do I have to downgrade to the previous kernel and wait for the next one?

Thanks

This is more than Toshiba--the ibm_acpi module is dead as well with the same error message (different module path and name of course). This is really ugly since ACPI sleep is now broken as well since /proc/acpi/sleep is not set up..obviously something related to ACPI is very broken in the FC4 latest kernel update. I am booting on 1398 until I hear that someone has resolved this. Have you opened a bug in bugzilla?

No, I have not open a bug in bugzilla. I don't have a bugzilla account (yet!).
If you open a bug, please post the number so I can track it.
In the mean time, I found this bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=163355
, which is related to FC5, so they were aware of this problem, but I don't think they have a solution so far.

I did the same and I am using kenel 1398. I tried every possible combination in /boot/config*1447* (ACPI Section), with no results, so the problem must be somewhere else. I am a newbi in these things so I stopped there.

Thanks

ok, so it appears there is an understanding that ACPI problems exist in the current fc4 update. It sounds like the maintainer is bringing in some of these ACPI hotfixes into rawhide already, and that the next fc4 update should hopefully include those. I personally am going to stay with 1398 until then..

With
Code:
# modprobe toshiba_acpi
I get
Code:
FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko): No such device
Which is the same error as in the first post. This issue hasn't been fixed since FC4? Or can it be something else?

Well, I'll assume you on a Toshiba laptop IIRC, this module is for those Toshiba laptops with the specific Toshiba BIOS. Other Toshiba models (like mine) have a Phoenix BIOS and this module does not wotk with them. This will happen when attempting to insert the module when the hardware is not present.

I've searched the fora for asimilar problem, this topic came the close-set so forgive me puting my question here. I'm using core 5 on a protege 7220ce who has a genuine toshiba-bios. The big problem is that at boodup a asus acpi module is being loaded. This module is then screwing up the rest of the hardware and deamons like cpuspeed and powermanagement. I'm using the 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 kernel at this time. Do any of you know a solution for this annoyence
