Sony Vaio

Just wondering if anyone has tried installing linux on a Sony Vaio specifically the FS series and more specifically the FS760/w model.

Just wondering if there were any issues during installation With hardware or anything.

Used to have a Sony Vaio F650. Installed Linux, don't recall any issues with it. That was few years ago. So, YMMV.

Hope that helps.

Dear guys,

I m having a sony vaio model PCG-C1XA. When i Install i can only see half of the screen. This vaio is the smallest one. Any guys of u have any idea if there is any particular driver for this model especially for the screen since my screen is half size from the normal notebook screen when i run the installation. I can't be able to see the buttons at the bottom.

A Million Thanking in advance.
Cheers,
XyLeo

I know its not the series you are looking for but I have had FC2-4 install and run beautifully on my VAIO R505GL laptop (slim + docking station w/ cd-rw/dvd). The only problems I've had so far was getting the jog dial to work (and I have since given up installing sjog package) and the latest xorg packages killing my display (due to a bug in the i8xx display drivers which has since been fixed). Other than those two, I havent had any problems in a almost 2 years.

I had total failure in installing with the original FC4 CD's. The kernel just wouldn't support network install and would persistently crash during CD install.

Downloading and using the unofficial FC4 update 1 CD's however, completely cured this hitch. FC4.1 is now completely installed with everything that I've checked working well.

The only thing that I've noticed an issue with is that /etc/fstab keeps on changing the line for the Memory Stick to /dev/sda rather than /dev/sda1. As soon as I change it to /dev/sda1 I can automount memory sticks no problem. One reboot later - it's magically changed back to /dev/sda

Apart from that though - no problems with graphics, sound, network etc. Don't recall doing anything with the external CD-ROM since installation, but I suppose the actual CD install shows that this works.

Cheers

Duncan

P.S. On a side note, does anyone know where to get good replacement parts for VAIOs? I suspect the internal fan has just packed up as I nearly burned my hand when I went back to it after leaving it on for an hour. :o

I have installed linux on sony vaio VGN-T2XRP/S which has 10.6 inch screen and 1280x768 resolution
Initially linux didnt support this resolution. I used a program called 855resolution to solve the issue.
Just google for 855resolution
there is also a site called linux on a laptop, which has intructions for intalling linux on various laptops
www.linux-laptop.net
tuxmobil.org/

Hope this helps.
