update dependency problems everywhere

I was trying to update my system today and apt-get and up2date both ran into the serious problem that it appears nothing with install because there are just way too many dependencies that aren't met.
Getting the rpms was no problem (well, after importing the gpg keys)
Below is the output. I will trim a BUNCH of lines from the 407!!! lines of dependency complaints. I'm at my wit's end, after surfing for hours trying to find anything resembling help. I can't fathom how I'd go about installing all those needed files, since I did find that many of THEM require unmet dependencies. I'm running FC1 and tis problem only seemed to creep up on me today.

Hmmmm... have you checked to see if you do have any of the programs that it needs? Try rpm -qi modutils to see if your version is greater than 2.4.18 (mine is at 2.4.25).

Good point. I did run the query and modutils IS 2.4.25, which tells me something is wrong and well, I haven't the foggiest idea how to deal with it, other than forcing the installs, which I did try with one RPM and it still complained about something.

A couple other examples are :
initscripts: wants >= 5.83 I have 7.42.2
gcc: wants >= 2.96-98 I have 3.3.2

Ok, I see a trend :twisted:

:? Any ideas?
MANY thanks,
Chris

UPDATE

If anyone cares.. I figured it out.

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb

I didn't even think of rebuilding the db, but lack of any responce in that direction, I fell upon it myself.
