Linux book comparison needed fast
Good Day Everyone,
I am buying Fedora Core 4 unleashed which hasn't shipped yet. I am very new to linux. I have searched this site and found one or two reviews on this book and Red Hat Fedora 4 Bible and I need to know which is the better of the two. Which one is easier to read and understand and has the most information about the apps contained and which one will digest easily. Which one has the most information about bringing up any and all servers contained in Fedora 4. Please can someone help me quickly, I can still change my order to the latter book. I have seen the Unleashed book with 5 stars on Amazon and the Fedora 4 Bible with 4 stars. A previous post on this site has me skeptical on my purchase. Thank you in advanced.

My vote is for the Red Hat Fedora 4 Bible. It's really well written and chock full of useful info...

Do you mean RHEL 4 Bible or Red Hat Fedora 4 Bible

What is wrong with the Unleashed book? Could you give me a little more on the comparison?

The book I have is the "Red Hat Enterprise Fedora 4 Bible". I took a look at the "Unleashed" book at Barnes & Nobles, and it just seemed like a rehash of FC3...
there is no comparison, IMHO

That is very helpful, thank you very much. I have also seen RHEL Fedora 5 Bible, veeeerrrry new, should this be very different from the previous edition based on your experience with RHEL 4 and RHEL 3?

For me, I have always liked the "Bible series" books. I currently have the RH7, RH8 and FC3/RHEL versions of the Bible book.
As far as a book for just reading, these are ok. The book that I have personally liked the best on my shelf is the Red Hat Linux Networking and System Administration. I find that I look back to this book a ton. It's a Red Hat Press book and the authors are Collings & Wall. There is a new version available. http://www.bookpool.com/sm/0764599496, it's $36.
My coworkers has the Red Hat Fedora and Enteprise 4 book and there isn't that much different from my version 3 book. I wouldn't expect the version 5 book to be much different. Just a couple of new things and a few things left out.

Probably, because there are quite a few new things in FC5 that aren't in FC4. You can read about that here in the news postings. If RHEL Fedora 5 is out, you might want to consider getting it, but I have not peeked into it, so I could not tell you about the content. The style of the author is very good though.
There you have it...a better opinion (pparks') for sure...
