Hi--

I have been using Fedora Core for a while on my HP Vectra VL8i (650 Mhz Pentium III, 512MB RAM, IDE system disk and CD-ROM, 4 SATA drives hanging off a Promise SATA/150 adapter, dual-port Gig-E card). This machine was originally a RedHat 9 box, that was upgraded to Fedora Core I, and was upgraded to Fedora Core II when it was released.

I regularly update the machine via yum, and everything has been happy so far, up until the kernel release after 2.6.6-1.435.2.3; I think there have been at least three releases since then, and they all exhibit the same behaviour. Following the GRUB screen, the machine starts to unpack Linux and the machine freezes there, not responding to the keyboard or power switch. The only way to get it to go any further is to pull the plug and select the last known working kernel, viz. 2.6.6-1.435.2.3.

Does anyone have any ideas why this hang could be happening? Any ideas on resolving the issue?

Just to let you know that upgrading to Fedora Core 3 appears to have resolved this issue. I do not know if it will come back, but for now it seems good.
